Then, add eucalyptus oil and freshly grated ginger to the water. Stand or sit with your head over the pot and cover you head with a towel to keep the steam in.

Breathe in the herbal steam until you feel your airways opening, and repeat as necessary. This is a great herbal remedy for the flu because it feels great and helps you keep your nose draining properly. You can also try this aromatic steam method with menthol, but that may be too intense for some people.

Treating the Flu with Soup

Of course the warmth and the steam are helpful, but you can improve the soup’s natural healing properties by including cayenne pepper, garlic, and horseradish.

Any warm soup is relatively beneficial, especially if it includes these ingredients, so don’t write this off even if you’re a vegetarian.

Cayenne pepper helps to promote mucus flow to carry the virus out of the body, garlic stimulates the immune system, and, as anyone who’s ever tried a spoonful of the stuff knows, horseradish is a powerful decongestant.

These ingredients make the soup a particularly potent weapon against flu symptoms. In addition to steam and soup, you can also try a classic mixture of honey and lemon juice to soothe a sore throat.

You might want to try Echinacea tea to promote immune health and relieve general flu symptoms. Apple Cider Vinegar also works wonders on flu symptoms if you can stomach it.

There are lots of teas, soups, and drinks that can make you feel better during the flu, but sometimes the best cure is to relax with a popsicle and your favorite movie or book.

Relaxation is also a powerful way to stimulate the immune system. It’s best to just let the flu run its course and work on suffering as little as possible while trying a few home remedies for the flu.
